About 1848 Pickleball
1848 is the year Ole Miss was founded, and Ole Miss has always been a pretty big part of my family. My three siblings and I all went there, my mom and her two siblings went there, and my grandparents, Rose and Henry Paris, met there. Eventually, all nine of their grandchildren would attend Ole Miss too.
My grandparents also have a special connection to Paris-Yates Chapel on campus. My grandfather was part of the original effort to build a chapel at Ole Miss many years ago, and my family later helped make that idea a reality — with the Paris family providing a lead gift toward construction. The chapel opened in 2001. One of my favorite details is the stained-glass window at the front, where a Star of David and a cross come together to represent my grandparents' two faiths and their marriage. It's an enduring part of their legacy at Ole Miss.
So when I was trying to come up with a name for this business, 1848 just felt right. It gives it a connection to Oxford and Ole Miss, but more importantly, it has a personal connection to my family and a place that has meant a lot to us for generations.
